The original images are not so great, a graphic designer generously volunteered to make nicer ones for us.

I don't know that they fit in with the feel of Bugzilla as well, but can I see them in context in a screenshot?
FYI, I *much* prefer something of the form of https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/. Icons are a bit smaller, less flashy and nicer, and vertically aligned instead of horizontally, which looks better to me.

Those do look pretty sharp, but they don't look like *buttons* to me. They just look like static images. Usually I expect buttons to come up out of the page a bit.

with some css changes and replacing images from boriss's mock here is what we could

quasi-Borris with a small css change

IMO much better than what we currently have, and is more in the direction to which we plan to go in 3.6. r=LpSolit
when I made the images I just remade what style Guy Pyrzak had on his post ;)

I can redo them all any style or shape ?

if you have a style you like or want send me a link or demo

kind regards
The post I made is based on a suggested change to the homepage UI that jBoriss of mozilla made. Here is the URL.
http://jboriss.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/bugzilla_suggestion.png

I just wanted to throw something together. I would appreciate it if jamey could make icons in this style since we will be going in this direction for future releases. I'm not sure what those icons should be at the moment, but if jamey doesn't mind throwing some together that match Boriss's UI and the the mock i posted I'm sure we'll be able to use them eventually.

I do have the diff to show the changes required to make this UI. It is mostly CSS changes and new icons.

I agree that Buggy doesn't really reflect what the button is about.

I'm not interested in anything this drastic for 3.4.

FWIW, I think the usability of the current page (Fitt's Law) is better than the usability of this one.

"You are not interested" is not a valid argument. Anyone can review the patch.
Nothing drastic about this. The current stable release doesn't have any such buttons.

We're about two or three days away from being ready for 3.4rc1. This isn't the time to be making UI changes. If you want to replace the images with nicer images, that's fine by me. But if you want to reorganize the UI at this point in any way that's not very minor, I would a- it.

We already resolved this on IRC, yesterday--people who want a different UI, it's very easy to change the front page with CSS. I believe pyrzak or somebody was going to provide a CSS file, or a skin, or a Greasemonkey script to do it.
this is a great place to give feedback suggestions about this UI and possible improvements/changes to the mock.
could we get the current images in 3.4 replaced with the images from comment 1, and open another bug against tip to get the images replaced with something more drastic?

  I like that idea.
Whiteboard: [needs new patch]
J.Pink Design has come up with some awesome icons that we're going to be using for 4.0, and I'll do the integration.
Assignee: guy.pyrzak → mkanat
Icons for Bugzilla released by J.Pink under the Mozilla Public License.

Of note, we currently abuse the new-account button to also be user-preferences. I'd appreciate it if we asked whichever graphics designer we use to provide a distinct image for user-preferences.
Summary: Replace the bugzilla homepage images with ones by a better graphic designer → Replace the bugzilla homepage images
I'll attach the patch to make it look like the mock i have. Also thanks a BUNCH BUNCH BUNCH to JPink! I personally really appreciate it, I'm not a graphical/visual designer so to have a pro do this will make the actual design look a bunch better. yay!

v1.1

This looks great, but I'd rather it was centered compared to the header, as opposed to centered compared to the browser. It feels a bit off when it's centered in the browser and not vs. the header.
